Is Inteligator a Scam???

So it is time for a reality check.  As you can see from the number of comments posted on the article we released detailing how to cancel an Inteligator membership, there are a lot people feeling frustrated with the Inteligator product.  We reviewed the signup and cancellation process provided by Inteligator and it seems to be fairly straight-forward but something is amiss if this many people are struggling with the concept of how to cancel a subscription.  In our opinion, Inteligator needs to provide a better cancellation procedure so that their customers can easily end a subscription should they decide they no longer need to product.  Other companies offer toll free phone numbers so that their customers can actually speak with a representative.  This allows the customer to know for sure that their account has been terminated to their satisfaction.

Anytime you are dealing with a subscription based service, there needs to be a clearly defined way out for the consumer.  If not, many customers will end up getting billed even while trying to figure out how to cancel.  That is not in keeping with the spirit of honest consumerism!  We therefore do not currently recommend Inteligator to anyone unless they clearly understand that this is a service in which you are enrolled meaning you will be billed every month for the contracted fee.  This billing will continue indefinitely until you cancel your subscription. Please refer to our previous article, “How To Cancel Your Inteligator Membership” for those exact steps which we gleaned from Inteligator.com’s own Terms page.

We clearly want to state that, despite the obvious confusion surrounding the cancellation process, every Inteligator customer that we have communicated with has succeeded in getting their account cancelled and any money refunded that was billed to them while they were trying to figure out the required procedure.  We have not heard of any substantiated claim where Inteligator has failed to refund money in such a case.  If this has happened to you please comment on this article or send us an email at admin@completereviews.net as we would very much like to hear from you!

A word on the Inteligator product itself.  In our personal experience, has been a decent product.  We were able to find a lot of good information on our test subjects.  There were some data errors in some of the searches but no more than we have seen in comparable sites.  All background check sites can have data errors as they rely completely on the end-source for the information they are reporting which can be a small court system in Wyoming.  We also liked their interface which we felt was easy to use.

There is also one other complaint we are hearing;  that people are being required to pay extra for certain information.  This comes as a surprise when they thought they had paid for an “unlimited” search product.  We researched this and according to Inteligator, the Unlimited Access is to a limited sub-set of information.  Some of their customers have complained that this violates the spirit of the product they were sold.  We looked at Inteligator’s Terms page, and in our opinion a scenario where a customer would need to pay extra for certain information is not clearly defined.  They basically state that a subscriber is given, “unlimited and full access to search results and reports for all searches available in the InteliGator Advanced Member’s Area”.  It goes on to list all the types of reports that are included in the Advanced Member’s Area and the list is fairly extensive.   No where do we see any indication that some of your searches may take you to reports not covered by this advanced area but apparently that must be the case.  We feel that Inteligator needs to clarify this for their customers in advance of them making a purchase so there is no confusion on what the term “Unlimited” means to both parties.

We will be communicating these points to Inteligator and hope it helps improve their product to a point where we can feel comfortable again recommending them to our readers.  For now, we recommend you really read the Terms provided by Inteligator before you decide if this is the right product for you.

If you are specifically looking for an unlimited search product, you may want to consider other options and can read detailed reviews of the best unlimited search sites at CompleteReviews.net.

If you have questions or concerns, either post them as a comment to this article or feel free to email us at admin@completereviews.net.

    • Your email was not sent to us… this is just a public record search blog. We are not Inteligator.com in any way! This article is just for information purposes. If you sent an email to cancellations@inteligator.com requesting your account be cancelled, then I am sure it will be. When did you send in your request? I know they don’t process cancellations over weekends.

    • I am sorry for the confusion but we do not own Inteligator.com. This is just an informational blog. We wrote this article to provide you with helpful information regarding our experience with the inteligator product. We have nothing to do with cancelations but can point you in the right direction. You just need to send an email to cancellations@inteligator.com requesting the cancel your subscription. I believe they process requests on business days and have seen it take a day or two for a request to go through. Please let us know if they do not respond!

  3. My comment is that I can’t access their e-mail. I use the library free computer, but the pop-up server keeps telling me that there is an error. I have tried to contact them but to no avail. Do you know of any alternate e-mail, or possibly a phone number? I can’t afford their service. I figured I could just try the $4.95 3 day trial because I am trying to look up my dead child’s birth certificate and I can’t afford the trip to where he was born. I would appreciate any help you have to offer. Thank you.

    • There is no need to access any pop-up program to cancel this service. You just send an email to cancellations@inteligator.com with a request that they cancel your service. I assume you have an email account? Just create a new mail message and enter the above email address into the To: field. Tell them who you are and ask to have the subscription cancelled.

Please let me know if this doesn’t work for you and I would be happy to try and help further. Please remember that we do not own nor control in any way the Inteligator product. We simply recommend it as a great option for those who cannot afford to pay a lot of money for background checks.

      Hope this helps!

  4. I want to cancel my membership and be refunded the original cost of $2.95 for the first 4 days of service and not be charged for the monthly fees of $19.95. Every site I try to go to, they are requesting additional fees. This is not what I am needing at this time.

    • Hi Brenda,

Sorry for not responding sooner. We do not own Inteligator. This is just an opinion blog regarding different public record search products. We posted an article about how to cancel an inteligator membership as it was a question we were receiving often. According to the Inteligator.com website, you need to send an email to cancellations@inteligator.com and request that your subcription be cancelled. Please let us know if they do not respond according to your desires.

  5. Dear sir, The website cancellations@inteligator.com does not work and I wish to cancel this membership. I know you don’t represent the company, but is there any other way to contact this company Ingeligator? Is there an alternate email, phone #, fax#, mailing address?? Anything? I really need to cancel this membership.

    Thank you, David

    • Hi David,

I am happy to help you out! The problem is that cancellations@inteligator.com is not a website… it is an email address. You send an email to that address asking for your subscription to be terminated an they will take care of it (usually within a day or two). Please let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the review. I will keep it in mind when I’m doing my research.

    Comment by Katie | July 22, 2010 | Reply

    • Thanks Katie! It has been quite interesting to read all the comments when I feel the articles could not be more straight-forward on what inteligator requires.

If you are doing research on best options for anything background check related you can also visit http://www.CompleteReviews.net or email admin@completereviews.net for answers to any of your questions.

Good luck to you and thanks for the kind comment!

  12. I signed up for the Intelligator service under the illusion that I would be receiving access to ‘public records’. All I have gotten for my $ is a series of searches that yeild basically nothing. Even when I search within a specific state all of the data that is returned to me is nationwide! Leaving me to sort through it. And usually offering up nothing for the stated “state” or “year of birth” I specified. In my opinion this service is not worth the money or the wasted time you will spend hunting through there data. (As a note: I did a test search in as many possible ways I could think of for known factual information that should have been available and still received “no results” – just an offer to do another search for an additional $30) This service seems highly suspect to me on the whole. Thank you for the cancellation information though. They didn’t inclued any access to this in my purchase receipt and its impossible to locate it on their website.
    Regards, T

  15. Dear Blog Writer,

Thank you very much for your informative reviews! We at InteliGator appreciate your comments and thank you again for your time.

I have noticed a lot of confusion regarding the cancellation procedures for InteliGator. I wish to inform our customers that cancellation instructions are printed clearly on the site both within the FAQ text and Terms and Conditions. Here are the links for your convenience:

    http://www.inteligator.com/home/terms.php
    http://www.inteligator.com/home/faq.php?act=faq_detail&fcat_id=9&fsc_id=42

We also a few different ways to cancel accounts for ease of our customers.

You can email me at ANY TIME at cancellations@inteligator.com or support@inteligator.com. Please make sure you include your ClickBank order number and email address you used to sign up so that we can find you quickly and take care of your request as efficiently as possible.

If email does not work for you, our customer support form within the members area is always open to our customers! It’s easy to use as well! Simply log into your account and click on “Help Center”. From there you will be given the option to contact Customer Support. Fill out the form and choose “Account Cancellation” as your subject and your account will be cancelled.

  16. If Inteligator Is Really On The Up And Up Why Are They Refusing To Make A Reply When Asked For Their Business Location And Mailing Address, And Business Phone Number. ( Why Are They Protecting This Information ?) They Advertise That They Can Help Us Find Anyone,Why Can’t They Help Us Find Them ? They Should At Least Have A Customer Support Live Chat. The Email Address They Give Us To Use For HELP Is A Joke! They Will Send You A Auto Reply Saying They Are Working On Your Request,And Someone Will Be Back In Touch. And That Is The Last You Will Hear From Them.

    • Seriously??? Why would you threaten me? Did you even read this article or look at the site you are on? I write a blog to help people! I am not Inteligator if you would take a moment to read anything on my site! I wrote this article to help people because I saw how many people are getting screwed by inteligator! But again, I am not going into your account or doing anything to you other than trying to help! Did you read the article I wrote on how to cancel a subscription? If so, you know how it is done. If you wish to pursue inteligator legally then I say go for it! They probably deserve it from what I have seen. I do not believe they are doing anything technically illegal but I beleive they are being intentionally deceptive with this monthly billing program which is why I tried to help by writing the articles. I wish you well in your efforts but next time make sure you are attacking the right people!

  23. I just have to say that I have been laughing my ass off at the people canceling their subscription to inteligator on this review blog. The human race is doomed if people really are this stupid.

    Comment by Melissa | July 19, 2013 | Reply

    • The scary thing is that I haven’t approved half of the posts as there are too many to manage. I also tend to leave out the comments telling me what a horrible person I am for running a scam when I am just trying to help! Sites like Inteligator should take heart knowing there are millions of people out there willing to plug in their credit card info without bothering to read the terms and conditions… Or do a quick search on the company name to see if they are legit. Scary!

      Comment by PublicRecordSearch | July 19, 2013 | Reply

  24. the easiest way to cancel your subscription will be to contact CKBank at 1-800-390-6035, contact the producer of your credit or debit card to dispute the charge and have a new card issued to prevent further charges. You will need the order number which was included with your initial receipt. (Wonder how many downloaded this info) to acquire a refund!
I wonder how many people will have the monies refunded? $19.95 times 1000 will more than pay for the services not rendered! Have a great day ya’ll!
