Do You Need a Free Background Check?

Is there a way to run a free background check?

So the most frequent question I get asked is, “How do I run a background check for free?”.  My response has always been, “It is not possible”.  And that has been the truth… until now.  Under normal circumstances, background checks cannot possibly be free and I would advise everyone to be extremely skeptical and suspicious of any site advertising any type of background check for “free”.  Most everyone who asks me about free background checks tells me that they have seen them advertised all over the internet but when they follow the link, they are required to pay.  It is frustrating to see how many dishonest advertisers there are out there just trying to lure you in with false promises of a free product that does not exist!

So how is what I am about to tell you any different from all those other advertisements?  Continue reading

Is Inteligator a Scam???

So it is time for a reality check.  As you can see from the number of comments posted on the article we released detailing how to cancel an Inteligator membership, there are a lot people feeling frustrated with the Inteligator product.  We reviewed the signup and cancellation process provided by Inteligator and it seems to be fairly straight-forward but something is amiss if this many people are struggling with the concept of how to cancel a subscription.  In our opinion, Inteligator needs to provide a better cancellation procedure so that their customers can easily end a subscription should they decide they no longer need to product.  Other companies offer toll free phone numbers so that their customers can actually speak with a representative.  This allows the customer to know for sure that their account has been terminated to their satisfaction.  Continue reading

How To Run A Background Check On Summer Camp Employees

It’s that time of year again…  When we send our young ones off to summer camps so we can get a mini summer break for ourselves.. oh, and so they can learn new things and make new friends as well!  Some of my fondest memories from childhood surround those few weeks I would spend at various camps.  Unfortunately, I also remember some pretty scary camp employees!  We live in a time of uncertainty where it is becoming more and more difficult to trust those we charge with caring for our children.  In today’s world, it is very hard to feel totally at ease when sending your child to any summer camp, whether it lasts one day or even two weeks.  How do we keep our children safe when they are away? How to Run a Background Check on Your Child’s Teacher

We live in a time of uncertainty where it is becoming more and more difficult to trust those we charge with caring for our children.  When I first considered utilizing online background check services to ensure the safety of my daughter, I felt a little nervous… Was this an invasion of that person’s privacy?  After much thought, I came to the conclusion that my daughter’s safety is more important than anything and outweighs all other factors.  Plus, all a background check service does is search databases full of public record information… stuff we have a legal right to know!  It’s not like you are hiring a private investigator to take pictures of them or dig through their trash (both of those are legal but start to cross my personal boundary into creepiness). Continue reading

Making Sure Mr. Right Really Is Mr. Right

I have heard so many stories lately about innocent women (and men) who found out shocking things about their partners after months in the relationship… things that, had they known originally, would certainly have kept them from ever getting involved with that person to begin with.  It is a sad statement on our society!  It makes me scared to ever let me daughter date anyone… ever! How To Conduct An Online Background Check

Online Background Checks have become one of the hottest markets on the internet.  Literally hundreds of sites dedicated to public record searching have appeared in just the last few months.  Public record information is big business and Online Background Checks are the backbone of that business.

First of all, why would your average consumer need to run an online background check on someone?  Some of the reasons may include:

  1. If you run a small business, running a basic background check on prospective (and current) employees is a very wise and safe business practice.
  2. As a parent, background checks provide a powerful weapon in the battle to protect your children.  Don’t just hope your children are safe at the home of a school friend.
  3. Dating is hard enough without having to worry about what kind of person your companion really is.  If you are starting up a new relationship, make sure you truly know who that person is.  You cannot believe how much information is available!
  4. What if you are interested in locating an old friend from your youth.  Most public search sites offer People Locator services as a part of their background screening.

These are just a few of the many examples of why these services are so valuable to the average consumer.  The reasons to use them are endless and the amount of data available with just a few clicks of a mouse is truly mind-blowing!

So how do you run an online background check?  In the paper world of yesterday, this would involve fingerprints, forms in triplicate, personal identification cards, etc.  Today, all you need is a cell phone number or sometimes even an email address.  The easiest way to start is generally with the person’s name and at least the city they live in.  The more information you have up front, the easier it is to narrow down your search so that you get the report on the right person.  The steps are very basic:

  1. Go to the Online Background Check site of your choice.
  2. Enter the information you already have on the person in the search fields provided.  This generally includes Name, Phone Number and/or Address.
  3. Conduct the general search.  A list of potential “hits” will be generated along with some basic identifying information so that you can make sure you have the right John Doe.
  4. Once your search is narrowed down to the correct person, run the Background Check.

A word of caution… make sure you narrow your search down to the correct individual prior to running the full background report or you may pay for information you do not want.  Once the report is run, you cannot get your money back.  That is why all the legitimate services allow a pre-search option.

Most sites create a full report which you can save to your computer or print off for future reference.  The kind of information you can expect to receive in the report includes:

  • Full name including known aliases
  • Address history
  • Phone number history
  • Financial information such as 1st and 2nd mortgage amounts.
  • Criminal History
  • Arrest Record

Bear in mind this is a small list.  The actual reports contain tons of information.  This is just an example of types of data you may receive.

So how do you go about choosing a reliable Online Background Check service?  By far the easiest (and safest) way to go is to utilize online consumer review sites.  Review sites do the research and testing so that you don’t have to.  They weed out the inferior products and make sure that the best products are recognized.  www.CompleteReviews.net is a review site dedicated to Public Record Search products.  They provide in-depth reviews on all the various public record search offerings and rank the top 3 services in each category.

Online Background Checks are powerful tools in our high tech world.  They provide us with safety and security in our uncertain world.

The Truth About Public Record Searching…

Public Records Searches have become a huge online business. It honestly scares me how much information anyone can find about me with only a few minutes of time and a web browser. Of course, that goes both ways. There are so many different reasons why a Public Records Search can come in handy or even downright necessary. For example, they can be extremely helpful when trying to protect your children.

Even though the source of all the data is the same, the products and services that access that data are very different. Prior to ever spending any money on a public records search services, it is important to know how they compare and which ones are real products versus scams. Review sites are a must as they independently rank the best public records search services. I recommend http://www.CompleteReviews.net for detailed reviews of all the top public records search services.

They break the public records search services into categories as there are so many different types of searches. They then rank the top three products in each of the following categories:

Unlimited Search services (the perfect solution for investigative parenting).
Bakground Check services.
Criminal Records searches.
Court Record Searches.
Social Security Number Record searches. (scary…)
Sex Offender Registry search services.
Reverse Phone Lookup services (a must have for anyone with a child who owns a cell phone).
Reverse eMail Lookup services (if your child is online, you need to check this out!)
Marriage Records search.
Divorce Records search.
Birth Records search.
Death Records search.
People Locator.
Commercial Grade Detective Products.
The most important thing to note is that you should never be tricked into paying for that which is easily accessible for free. Most public search records are by nature freely available. But that doesn’t mean they are easily accessible. And some of the records are not accessible at all without utilizing a paid service with access to the information.

Take Reverse Phone Lookups for example. You should rarely be charged for a landline phone number. The basic rule of thumb is that if it is listed in a phone book, you can find it for free. Services like http://www.whitepages.com and http://www.anywho.com are excellent resources. But how do you find the owner of an unlisted number or better yet, a cell phone? That is where Reverse Phone Lookups become essential. www.CompleteReviews.net/ ranks the top three best sites for these services.

Again, don’t get caught paying for easily accessible free services. Make sure the service is independently reviewed and rated and you will get what you pay for and more!

Reverse Phone Lookup

Reverse Phone Lookups have been a hot item for some time now. So many sites have popped up that offer to tell you exactly who owns a specific phone number. Are these searches a waste of money? Is it all a big scam? Yes and no…

First of all, we need to examine the difference between a Reverse Phone Lookup and Reverse Cell Phone Lookup. A good question to ask yourself is, “Can I likely find this phone number in a regular phone book?”. If the answer is “yes” then you should not be paying a service to report the owner of that phone number. All you need to do in this case is use any free phone listing service such as:

http://www.WhitePages.com

http://www.anywho.com

But if you are dealing with a cell phone or even an “unlisted” number, a paid service is the way to go. Again, however, there are many scams out there. I have seen some services that make you think they have results which you must pay to see only to find out that the results are incorrect or bogus. Of course, you cannot figure out how to get your money back.  I have done a lot of research and it is all includede on my review site for all Public Records Search www.CompleteReviews.net.

Being charged for a reverse phone lookup should never happen. Paying for an unlisted lookup or especially a cell phone is totally appropriate.
